No municipal water will be used for cooling at any point during the life of the facility. The cooling system uses a closed loop design that circulates water through sealed piping, filled once with water sourced from outside Nueces County and expected to remain in use for approximately four to seven years, requiring no ongoing consumption and no draw from local sources. Municipal water will be used solely for standard facility needs such as restrooms and sinks. Total daily consumption for each phase of the project is estimated at approximately 10,000 gallons per day, comparable to the daily water use of a small commercial facility such as a restaurant. Will the project increase my electricity bill? This project is not expected to raise residential electricity bills. Recent research, including studies from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Charles River Associates, finds no clear evidence that data centers directly cause higher residential electricity rates. Retail prices are more strongly influenced by factors such as fuel costs, distribution infrastructure investment, weather events, and state policy. In some cases, large electricity customers can help spread fixed utility costs across a broader base, putting downward pressure on rates rather than increasing them. Hut 8 has pre-funded all necessary infrastructure costs required to serve its load, ensuring none of these costs will be passed on to residential customers. Will the project cause noise pollution? The facility is designed to operate with minimal noise disruption. Hut 8 is working with external firms to study potential noise impacts and, if necessary, implement measures to minimize any disturbance to nearby communities. Will the project create additional traffic? Construction activity is expected to bring increased traffic to the area. Hut 8 is working with the Texas Department of Transportation to ensure minimal disruption to the community. All construction activity will occur during defined working hours in accordance with applicable county requirements.
